“If you’re interested in ‘balancing’ work and pleasure, stop trying to balance them. Instead make your work more pleasurable.” – Donald Trump
There’s no such thing as work-life balance. There are work-life choices, and you make them, and they have consequences. – Jack Welch
I am just finishing up ‘Never Eat Alone’ by Keith Ferrazzi in which he says that work-life balance is BS. According to Ferrazzi, balance is not something you put in place – it is a mindset of being alive with enthusiasm and having gratitude.
When you are dissatisfied and feel that there is somewhere else you need to get, it means that you are out of balance. This has nothing to with your schedule. You can have a crazy calendar, where you are always on the go, and still feel balanced. Think of a time when you were really in flow and excited about what you were doing that you could do it for hours at a time without wanting a break.
If you feel horrible about your work, even if you cut back on the time you spend in the office and reassign it to another part of your life, you probably are still going to feel unfulfilled and out of balance – the anxiety will pervade all parts of your life.
By making what you love a priority and enjoying what you do and the people you are around, the more balanced your life will feel.
Are you in balance? What’s your mindset?
